FREE Learn to Wrestle Minicamp

On November 18th and 20th 2019, USC Youth Wrestling will be hosting a FREE Learn to Wrestle minicamp from 6PM to 7:15PM for Kindergarten through 6th graders that are new to the sport and would like to learn more. There is no commitment to participate in the Learn to Wrestle minicamp and is open to all USC youths. Participants will work with coaches to learn some of the basic moves, and find out what a match is all about.

Coaches will also be on hand to discuss wrestling with parents and answer any questions about the program.

The minicamp will be held at the Fort Couch Nutrition Center. Kids should come in t-shirts, loose athletic shorts (no buckles, rivets) or sweat pants, and socks. All advanced practices require registration before the first practice on November 18th. New wrestlers have until November 25th to register.

Please “like”, hover over the follow button and choose to see first/get notifications and regularly check the Upper St. Clair Youth Wrestling FB page for updates, location changes, etc.! Also, once you register, you will be added to Team Snap. That is the primary method of communication throughout the season.

About the Program

USCAA Wrestling is a winter program for boys in Kindergarten through 6th grades. The emphasis of wrestling is on learning the basic moves of the sport, physical fitness and competitive matches.

The sport of wrestling allows children of all shapes and sizes to compete against other children at the same age, weight, and experience. Wrestling instills core values such as:

  • Discipline
  • Endurance
  • Self-confidence
  • Perseverance

We strongly recommend new parents to read the Parents Guide to Wrestling to learn more about the sport at the youth level.

Not all participants are ready to compete in matches, so the program usually has several children who come to the practices and learn, but do not begin competing until they feel more comfortable doing so.

The program is a member of the South Hills Youth Wrestling League, and participates in league-organized dual meets and tournaments designed for both novice and advanced wrestlers. We also participate with non-league youth teams to match our wrestlers against other wrestlers of the same weight, age, and experience.

Our team matches are usually with programs from other townships within a 30-minute drive. Separately, there are wrestling tournaments all over Western Pennsylvania in which team members can compete on practically every weekend throughout the season. There are also post-season Junior Olympic qualifying tournaments in which team members compete.
