The purpose of the USCAA Girls’ Softball Program is to provide an opportunity for children of township residents to learn to play softball. The program’s emphasis is to create a “recreational” yet competitive environment in which the participants can learn the sportsmanship and skills necessary to play at a more advanced level while enjoying the fun of a team sport
Slow pitch softball is offered to ages 7 and 8 year olds. Coaches pitch and the atmosphere is very non-competitive. The approach is to introduce the game of softball by emphasizing a very positive, fun environment.
Fast pitch softball is a sport that is now available to women at higher levels, including college. It requires dedication to acquire skill development and game experience. The USCAA will make every effort to provide the opportunity to all girls in the USC community to participate in games and to improve their skills to enable those who wish to compete at higher levels, including high school and college, to do so.
December 31 is the cutoff date for all age groups. Players will be grouped in the following divisions based upon the player’s age on December 31 of the year PRECEEDING the actual upcoming seasonal year (e.g. Age on Dec 31, 2005 for the 2006 season):

1.
7-8 year olds (Slow Pitch)
2.
9-10 year olds (Fast Pitch)
3.
11-12 year olds (Fast Pitch)
4.
13-15 year olds (Fast Pitch)
5.
16-18 year olds (Fast Pitch)

Children of current residents of Upper St. Clair are eligible to participate. In addition, children of families who can substantiate that they are moving into the township during the season are eligible to participate.
A reasonable degree of commitment is expected by each player. Players should keep in mind that the numbers of players per team has been structured to afford each girl optimum playing time. Failure to field an entire team may result in forfeiture of that game and, subsequently, a loss to the team as a whole. Consideration should be made to the rest of the team. It is expected that each player will notify her coach in the event of a necessary absence.
Registration is typically at the end of January. Practices and games begin end of March or beginning of April depending on the weather. The recreation season ends mid to late June. Players enrolled in the recreation fast pitch program are eligible to try out for the travel team based on age eligibility. The travel program provides players who have advanced skills and abilities the opportunity to participate in a competitive environment. Players will be evaluated at tryout sessions and rosters are limited. Some players may not be placed on a travel team. The travel fast pitch teams participate in tournaments throughout the month of July which requires a time commitment from players and their families.
